Vince Neil – Tattoos & Tequila
On June 22nd, Vince Neil will release his new album Tattoos & Tequila, co-produced by Vince Neil, Jack Blades (Aerosmith, Ozzy Osbourne, Alice Cooper) and Marti Frederiksen (Aerosmith, Def Leppard, Buckcherry). The album serves as the soundtrack to the book of the same name (to be released in September) and is a compilation of genre defining hits that have inspired Vince throughout the years.
To be honest with you I have never expected Vince Neil to release an album full of new songs, the man is a loser and he also knows that – covers fits him just perfect. But let’s see what songs he picked and if he covered with dignity.
Tattoos & Tequila
This is a new song that Vince co wrote with Marti Frederiksen. This song shares the same title as the new book coming out in September 2010 about the life and crimes of Vince Neil. Nice song, about Tattoos & Tequila.
He’s A Whore.
Cheap Trick is a great glam band and He’s A Whore is one of the greatest songs ever written. Neil did an exceptional job by giving to the song the freshness it deserved. Thumbs Up for this one.
AC/DC
Although AC/DC is not in my favorite list of songs by glam pioneers Sweet, I have to admit that Mr Neil made an exceptional job to this one too. Thumbs up!
Nobody’s Fault
Hhm, this is one of my favorite songs in Aerosmiths 4th, Rocks album. It’s kind of heavier, his voice fits perfect but I prefer the original due to the pure 70’s sound.
Another Bad Day
This song was originally to be released with Motley Crues New Tattoo album. For some reason the band never included it in the New Tattoo album ‘cause they probably thought they had better ones. Anyway that album sucked but Another Bad Day is a nice ballad that Bon Jovi would kill to have written and sang.
No Feelings
When Sex Pistols sang No Feelings in Nevermind the Bollocks album in 1977 anger was spread all over their music. Now with Neil, it sounds like nothing more that a pop glam song , they kind of stuff Poison would sang (no offence, I love Poison).
Long Cool Woman
Vince Neil in an attempt to enlighten us about his musical influences, covers this classic song from The Hollies. The cover has nothing to do with the original and that’s fine by me – a little glam attitude never hurt anybody.
Another Piece of Meat
Taken from Scorpions Love Drive album. Mr. Neil surprised me with this pick. I like the album and I think I prefer Love Drive played by Scorpions but with Vince Neil’s vocals.
Who Will Stop the Rain
Taken from Creedence Clearwater Revival, 1970 Cosmo’s Factory album – Who’ll Stop the Rain is another fine cover that pays its respect to the original. Great song.
Viva Las Vegas
Love it or hate it. Who can cover or review a song like that.
Bitch is Back
Taken from 1974 Elton John’s Caribu album, The Bitch is Back is one of Elton’s rockiest songs and another fine cover from Vince. Great solo. Thumbs Up!
Beer Drinker and Hell Raisers
This song describes perfectly the life and crimes of Vince Neil and Motley Crue. Taken from ZZ Top’s 1973 Tres Hombres album this is a bonus a track. I prefer the original version although I also like Motorhead’s cover. This one is just ok!
Overall this is a nice effort from Vince Neil taking in consideration that if he was to release an album full of new songs probably would suck ass. We can’t wait for his autobiography.
