American Hair Metal (Book)

Steven Blush is an American author, publisher and promoter. In the early 80s he promoted Hardcore punk shows in Washington, DC. In 1986 he founded Seconds magazine, publishing it until 2000. His most famous book American Hardcore: A Tribal History was released in 2001 through Feral House publishing while the film version, American Hardcore, was released September 22, 2006. His writing has appeared in Spin, Interview Magazine, The Village Voice, Details, and High Times.

In American Hair Metal, Steven Blush didn’t try to make another encyclopedia of the genre. Instead, he gives a more light overview of the background of the story of Hair Metal. He gathered some terrific images by talented photographers of the era. He profiled, some of the big bands like Bon Jovi and Cinderella while he didn’t forget some lesser known acts like Roughhouse and Heavens Edge. There is also a quick reference to some girl bands like Poison Dollies and Precious Metal.

What makes this book a must have are the photos. There are dozens of superb photos of the bands, some of them I wasn’t familiar with. Photos from concerts, band portraits, photos with groupies, magazine covers, even some drawings of the bands made by their fans.Nice stuff
