Alan Moore knows the score: Twilight of the Superheroes

As every geek knows, one of the most annoying trends in the comics industry these days, is the constant use of crossovers. Every bloody Summer, Marvel and DC fans have to tolerate another stupid “event” which takes over all superhero titles and promises to CHANGE EVERYTHING. Most of these crossovers suck balls.

Well, it didn’t have to be this way. Back near the end of the 1980s, Alan Moore pitched a crossover event to DC Comics. It was called Twilight of the Superheroes and was a dark account of the end of the DC Universe. The original outline for the story has been floating about in the net for years and is worth a read. It was a complicated story, stagering in its scope and rather daring for mainstream comics. And it featured DC’s coolest occultist, the punk warlock John Constantine, as a catalyst for the proceedings.

As usual with these things, the project never materialized. You can read more about it in this excellent Sabotage Times article and feel nostalgic for one of the great comicbook epics that never was.
