ΧΑΟΣ REIGNS

So, Greece once again steals the spotlight of farcical incompetence from overrated amateurs like Italy and the UK. For a while there, it seemed that the likes of Sylvio “Pepe Le Piu” Berlusconi and David  “I hate the poor” Cameron were the most ludicrous heads of state in Europe. Sensing the danger of being upstaged, our prime minister George Papandreou announced yesterday that he is holding a referendum. The Greek people will be asked to vote whether they want Europe to bail us out. And all that, despite the fact that the bailout plan has already been agreed a few days ago. Even worse, Papandreou didn’t bother to inform Germany, France, or indeed most of his cabinet about the referendum.

Cue worlwide market panic, Sarkozy frothing at the mouth and the whole of Europe looking in disbelief as we explode like a child playing with a hand grenade.

It should be noted that this “Socialist” Government never asked for a referendum when they decided that the country needed the International Monetary Fund, or for pushing employee rights back to the middle ages, or for any of their brutal austerity measures of the last two years. At the time, it might have made a difference. Having a referendum about the bailout now is like playing chicken with your own people (DO YOU WANT THE MONEY OR NOT, YE UNGRATEFUL BASTARDS? FLIP THE COIN BITCHEZ…) and it might just result in us getting kicked out of the EU. Oh and a special mention goes out to the other political parties who either stood around like vultures, waiting for the Government to fail in order to gain votes, or suggested solutions so unrealistic that they could only apply in Narnia.

This is Greece. Suicidal stupidity is our middle name.
