Lo- Pan – Salvador
The awesomely named Lo- Pan have been around for a while, releasing two albums, before signing with Small Stone Records. It’s an appropriate move, as they fit right in with the company’s roster of no- nonsense hard rock acts. And while their previous albums were very good, if there’s any justice in this fucked up world, Salvador should catapult them in the big leagues. It’s a unkempt, sandblasted album, full of stoner rock grooves and awe- inspiring riffs. So far so good, and Kuyss fans are going to loose their shit over this, but what really sets Lo- Pan apart from the countless desert / stoner bands around, is musical variety and a charismatic frontman. There are enough headbanging anthems in here to ignite Roadburn or spice up the Sons Of Anarchy soundtrack (glorious opener El Dorado is a textbook example), but for me, it’s the mescaline- infused trip of Bird Of Prey and singer Jeff Martin’s soulful pipes in the stunning Struck Match that prove their worth.
Frankly, I can’t imagine anyone not liking this.
